"Join us for a Storytime in celebration of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

Friday, 7 August 2026 - 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Kirrip Library.

This Storytime will feature stories from our Deadly Collection, songs and an art activity designed by Sam Richards from Muyan Story. This activity is based on The Moon Story by Marshia Cook, chosen by The Indigenous Literacy Foundation as the book to support Children’s Day in 2026.

National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day celebrates the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were removed from their families without knowing their birthday, as part of the Stolen Generations. 4 August celebrates children and aims to strengthen their confidence and identity, and ensure they feel valued, visible, and included. The 2026 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme is Living Our Truth, honouring the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations and the importance of telling stories."
