The City of Whittlesea are celebrating National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day with a fun-filled community event at the Brookwood Community Centre, 25 Hazel Glen Drive, Doreen. This special day is an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to celebrate their children, and for everyone to come together to learn about and celebrate the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Families are invited to enjoy a range of activities, including games, live music, face painting, and arts and crafts. Bookings are encouraged but not essential, and all are welcome to join in the celebrations.

This special event will include fun crafts, cultural foods, dancers to honour the importance of our children and their connection to culture, community, and country. North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre is excited to celebrate Children's Day, which will begin with an assembly. Cyrill Yarran will perform Welcome Country and a smoking ceremony on the beautiful campus, with dancers also performing on the day. Following that, the centre will conduct class activities using the Children's Day bags and discuss why it is important to feel a sense of belonging and pride in our culture.
