What is the Coalition of Peaks?
The Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations is a representative body made up of more than 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled peak and member organisations across Australia that represent some 800 organisations.
The organisation came together as an act of self-determination to be formal partners with Australian Governments and to share in the decision-making on Closing the Gap that works to improve the life outcomes of our people and communities.
As community-controlled organisations, we work for and are accountable to our communities, not governments. We share a belief that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should have a meaningful say on policies and programs that impact us through formal partnerships with all levels of Australian governments, because we know how to best advance our lives.
SNAICC’s position within the Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations ensures that children and families across the nation are at the centre of decisions that are made for our people, as we work towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children being happy and safe, connected to family, community and culture.
Members of the Peak
Membership comprises nearly every national, state and territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled peak organisation.
The organisations in the Coalition of Peaks have worked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives, communities, families and people, and have represented them on issues important to our people for decades. Members have their own unique histories, needs and priorities, and share a commitment to legitimate community-controlled representation of our communities on matters that are important to our people.
