Children’s Day 2025: Little Footsteps, Big Future
The 2025 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme Little Footsteps, Big Future honours the journeys our children take as they grow—each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.
SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, held every year on 4 August, is our national day dedicated to celebrating our children. It’s an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and learn about the impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
Our vision is for our children to thrive, be strong in culture and connected to kin and community—our children should be proud to come from the oldest living culture in the world.
Each year, hundreds of early years services, education centres, sporting clubs, organisations and communities across Australia host Children’s Day events to mark the day, coming together to celebrate the strength, resilience and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. We invite you to join us in recognising the importance of nurturing children’s voices and dreams. Together, we can support a future where every child walks strong in their identity and is empowered to shape their own path.

I Saw We Saw: 2025 Children's Day book
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation has generously donated I Saw We Saw by Nhulunbuy Primary School for this year’s Children’s Day bags.
I Saw We Saw, with its stunning illustrations and intriguing text, offers insight into the world of Yolŋu students at Nhulunbuy Primary School. Created through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Community Publishing Program, Yolŋu students from Nhulunbuy Primary School wrote and illustrated this story with Ann James and Ann Haddon over a series of workshops, and alongside Elders from their community, to craft their story in both English and Dhangu, a Yolŋu Matha language. This book is a delight to read and explore, with opportunities to learn Yolŋu Matha.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation and SNAICC continue to work together to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by providing access to cultural resources and literature. We would like to give a big shout out to the team at the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, we enjoy working together every year to bring language to children across the country.
