SNAICC Annual Report 2023-2024
Muriel Bamblett
I am pleased to present the SNAICC Annual Report 2023-2024 on behalf of the Board and Council.
This has been a year of challenges and opportunities. SNAICC has continued to stand strong and represent the interests, voice and aspirations of our members and sector, and most importantly, of our children.
It has been a year of immense growth for SNAICC, not only in terms of the amount and scope of our work, but in terms of our reach and influence on policy, public debate and decision making that impacts our children.
A long-held aspiration of SNAICC came to fruition in February, when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a commitment to appointing a National Commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People. This announcement was the result of decades of advocacy from our sector and Elders.
The National Commissioner will be the champion, the voice and facilitator for our children, young people and families, and who will hold governments to account. I want to reflect on the significance of this year, which saw the historic referendum of the Voice to Parliament. The referendum’s defeat was a blow, but has only increased our determination to ensure that every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child has the opportunity to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. Our work is far from over and I am excited for the path ahead.
Together, we will continue to advocate for our communities and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children across Australia. A special thanks to our members, the SNAICC Board and team, and our many supporters who work tirelessly to achieve better outcomes for our children.
I commend this report to you as a record of SNAICC’s achievements, financial performance and compliance.
