Movement on Country Cards

Product Description

The Movement on Country Cards set is a culturally responsive early years resource developed by SNAICC’s Early Years Support team for children aged 3–5 years. The cards support children to explore movement through imaginative play, build connections with animals on Country and develop their Fundamental Movement Skills.

Fundamental Movement Skills are essential movement patterns that engage various body parts. Skills such as running, hopping, catching, throwing, striking and balancing form the building blocks for more complex activities in play, sports, dance and physical education.

The cards focus on two Fundamental Movement Skills categories:
– Body Management: balancing the body in stillness and in motion, including static and dynamic balancing, rolling, stopping, landing, bending, stretching, twisting, turning, swinging and climbing.
– Locomotor: transporting the body in any direction from one point to another.

The cards integrate physical movement, imaginative play and mind-to-muscle connection, supporting children’s physical and emotional development.

Using animals on Country as a basis for imaginative play, children are encouraged to actively engage in movement while listening, participating and learning as a group. The cards also provide opportunities to support cultural connection and responsiveness, encouraging children to use their home language when naming the animals. The Movement on Country Cards provide educators with an engaging way to incorporate Fundamental Movement Skills and imaginative play into early childhood learning that support children’s holistic development.

The Movement on Country Cards are the second in a series of Early Years Support Classroom Resources available for purchase this year.
