Description
What a wonderful Children’s Day at Kummara!
Children, families, Elders and community from Leichhardt State School and Goodna Headstart Kindergarten came together on Yuggera Country in Goodna, Queensland, to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2026 and this year’s theme, Living Our Truth.
It was a day of celebration of the strength, pride, identity, joy and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and the culture, community and connections that help our children grow up strong. Children and families enjoyed a full day of fun, with ochre crushing, dot painting, a petting zoo, balloons and dedicated play spaces.
The day was filled with culture, connection, creativity and community, with a special performance by the Leichhardt State School Deadly Dancers, coordinated by Aunty Marly from Leichhardt State School, and rich cultural dances, stories and traditions shared by the Wagga Torres Strait Islander Dance Company. There was also storytelling from Kummara CEO Dr Gerald Featherstone, SNAICC CEO Catherine Liddle and Children’s Day Ambassador Marlee Silva.
