A Place for Culture – Cooloon/Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Workshop Information
A Place for Culture is a professional learning and development opportunity that supports Early Childhood Education and Care educators and leaders working in non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services to build inclusive early learning environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
The A Place for Culture Cooloon/Tweed Heads & Coolangatta workshop will be held on the traditional lands of the Bundjalung and Yugambeh peoples at Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre in Coolangatta. The workshop will be delivered by the SNAICC Learning and Development team.
Workshop Details
- Date: Thursday 22 October 2026
- Time: Arrive from 9:00am for a 9:30am start – 4:30pm finish
- Location: Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre, 1 Garrick Street, Coolangatta
- Catering: Lunch and afternoon tea will be provided. Please advise any dietary requirements when enrolling.
The workshop is free for participants and is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). Participants are responsible for any travel or personal expenses.
Places are limited to three participants per organisation. Additional participants may be added to a waitlist.

Venue Information
The Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre is located on the traditional lands of the Bundjalung and Yugambeh peoples on the Queensland–New South Wales border in the heart of Coolangatta.
Located on Kirra Headland, the historic centre overlooks the coastline and surrounding community.
The heritage-listed former Coolangatta State School has been restored as a community and cultural space and, now, the centre provides a welcoming setting for community gatherings, cultural activities, workshops and events.
The venue is accessible by local bus services, with stops within walking distance. Participants are encouraged to check Translink for current routes and timetables before travelling.
Limited on-site parking is available at the centre, including an accessible parking space. Additional street and nearby parking is available in the surrounding area.
The venue is fully accessible, with lift access to the first floor. Accessible parking is available on site. Participants with specific accessibility requirements are encouraged to contact the SNAICC team before attending.
Enrolment Information
After you enrol, SNAICC will review your enrolment and confirm your spot.
- Once confirmed, we will send you an email with your in‑person workshop details.
Note: If the workshop is full at the time of review, we will place you on the waitlist and let you know. - You will also receive a request to complete a short self-assessment survey via Google Forms (this will take less than 5-10 minutes).
- Approximately six weeks before the workshop, Early Childhood Australia (ECA) will provide login details to access the online learning.
- Finally, you will have access to online learning for up to six weeks before the workshop and for four weeks after.
A Place for Culture is delivered through a blended learning model, including:
- Self-paced online learning; approximately 6–8 hours.
- One-day, in-person workshop facilitated by SNAICC.
- Online yarning circle to reflect and share learning with peers.
- Certificate of participation on completion.
This approach allows participants to build knowledge at their own pace and then apply learning in a supportive, interactive environment.
Participants will have access to two self-paced online learning programs up to six weeks before the in-person workshop:
- Program 1: A Place for Culture (Four courses | Estimated 3–4 hours total)
- Program 2: A Place for Culture in the Early Years (Two courses | Estimated 1–2 hours total)
Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the online learning before attending the in-person workshop, as it provides important background knowledge that will be built on during the in-person session.
