National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2025

This printable activity worksheet has been developed for children and educators to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2025, guided by the theme, Little Footsteps, Big Future. The theme honours the journeys Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children take as they grow, with each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.

Designed for early learning, primary school and community settings, the worksheet provides engaging, age-appropriate activities that support children to:

  • celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities,
  • explore the importance of culture, kinship and belonging,
  • reflect on children’s strengths, aspirations and futures,
  • build understanding, respect and pride in the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

The activities are easy to use, adaptable across age groups, and suitable for classrooms, early learning services, playgroups, OSHC programs and community events. This resource supports strengths-based, culturally responsive practice and provides a simple way for services and schools to celebrate Children’s Day in ways that are inclusive, engaging and community-centred.

What is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day?

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, held every year on 4 August, is our national day dedicated to celebrating our children.

It’s an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and learn about the impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child. Our vision is for our children to thrive, be strong in culture and connected to kin and community—our children should be proud to come from the oldest living culture in the world.

Each year, hundreds of early years services, education centres, sporting clubs, organisations and communities across Australia host Children’s Day events to mark the day, coming together to celebrate the strength, resilience and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. We invite you to join us in recognising the importance of nurturing children’s voices and dreams. Together, we can support a future where every child walks strong in their identity and is empowered to shape their own path.

Children’s Day is an initiative of SNAICC – National Voice for our Children and we organise a national launch event annually for Children’s Day to be held at a different location each year. These events also see the wider community take the lead in celebrating Children’s Day with amazing and diverse celebrations across the country. SNAICC produces and distributes resources to help local communities and organisations around the country celebrate the day, including 20,000+ Children’s Day bags and other resources to support more than 500 community events across Australia.
