Bushland Animal Yoga Cards
Product Description
The Bushland Animal Yoga Cards set is a culturally responsive classroom resource developed by SNAICC’s Early Years Support team as an engaging and accessible introduction to yoga for children under five.
Inspired by the shapes and movements of Australian bushland animals, the cards take children on a playful, meditative journey that strengthens connection to culture, self, land and Country. The bushland animal-inspired poses encourage physical activity, mindfulness and social connection while supporting children’s holistic development in early childhood settings and aligning with the Early Years Learning Framework.
Yoga practice in the early years supports children’s emotional wellbeing by promoting calm, self-regulation and healthy expression of feelings. It also strengthens physical development through improved flexibility, balance, strength and coordination, while supporting psychological development by building concentration, focus and confidence. Introducing yoga early can help children develop positive habits and life skills such as patience, persistence and self-discipline.
Designed for children under five, the set includes 12 double-sided yoga cards featuring poses inspired by the shapes and movements of Australian bushland animals, including goannas, wombats, kookaburras, koalas, snakes, dingoes, echidnas, emus, platypus and kangaroos, an overview of the Yoga Cards, and a structured 20-minute lesson plan to support educators in introducing yoga activities in early childhood settings.
To deepen connection to Country and strengthen cultural learning, each yoga card includes a dedicated space for the local First Nations word for that animal to promote cultural connection and responsiveness for children and educators in the classroom. We invite you to engage with local Elders or community members to learn the names of each animal if you are unsure.
The Bushland Animal Yoga Cards are the first in a new series of Early Years Support classroom resources available for purchase this year.
Keep an eye out for these resources from SNAICC’s Early Years Support team throughout the year.
Early Years Learning Framework Alignment
Bushland Animal Yoga Cards align with the Early Years Learning Framework by recognising children’s learning as a holistic, relational and strengths-based process.
