SNAICC – National Voice for our Children has announced renowned artist and former professional surfer, Otis Hope Carey as this year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day Ambassador.
Held on 4 August, Children’s Day is an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and celebrate the impact community, culture and family play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
SNAICC CEO Catherine Liddle said that Mr Hope Carey will be a strong advocate and voice for this year’s theme – Little Footsteps, Big Future.
“Otis is not only a powerful artist, but also a storyteller, a father, and someone who shows our children what’s possible when you’re strong in culture and community,” Ms Liddle said.
“He has a beautiful connection to the Early Childhood Centre we will be celebrating Children’s Day this year, Kulai Preschool Aboriginal Corporation, as both a previous attendee and where his mother, Aunty Julie Carey, continues to lead as Director.
“The day will be celebrated across the nation by thousands of children and hundreds of communities, early years services, schools and play groups.”
A proud Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung man from New South Wales, Mr Otis Hope Carey is a father of three, an acclaimed artist and a title winning former professional surfer. He is deeply connected to his culture and community, and passionate about the futures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
“I’m incredibly proud to be the 2025 Children’s Day ambassador,” Mr Hope Carey said.
“Children’s Day is a day about all of us – young and old – being wrapped in Aboriginal language and culture and being able to soak up the knowledge and wisdom of our Elders and ancestors.”
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate our kids, embrace our culture, and connect with Country, there’s nothing more important than that for our young ones.”
To help celebrate Children’s Day, SNAICC is offering Children’s Day bags for purchase. You can purchase Children’s Day bags here.
