Description
For National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2025, SNAICC – National Voice for our Children joined community celebrations on Gumbaynggirr Country at Kulai Preschool Aboriginal Corporation in Coffs Harbour to celebrate the official national event for 2025.
More than 200 children, families and community members came together, alongside students and educators from Kulai Preschool, Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School and Grafton’s Gummyaney Aboriginal Preschool. This year’s Children’s Day ambassador, Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung man Otis Hope Carey was in attendance on the day too.
The celebrations at Kulai brought this year’s theme ‘Little Footsteps, Big Future’ to life, showcasing the strength that comes from growing up in a culturally rich environment and honouring the journeys children take as they grow, with each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.
The celebration was filled with joy as children danced their songs, spoke their language, and were embraced by aunties, uncles, nanas and grandpas. It was a living example of what we celebrate and promote every year on National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.
SNAICC would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Aunty Julie Carey, Otis Hope Carey, Clark Webb, the staff at Kulai Preschool, Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School and Grafton’s Gummyaney Aboriginal Preschool, and the children and families for welcoming us into this year’s celebrations.
