A Place for Culture – Djilang/Geelong Workshop Information

A Place for Culture is a professional learning and development opportunity that supports Early Childhood Education and Care educators, leaders and service providers working in non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services to build inclusive early learning environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

The A Place for Culture Djilang/Geelong workshop will be on Wathaurong Country at Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre in Grovedale and will be delivered by the SNAICC Learning and Development team.

Workshop Details
  • Date: Thursday, 30 April 2026
  • Time: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
  • Location: Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre, 410 Surf Coast Hwy, Grovedale
  • Catering: Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Please advise any dietary requirements when enrolling.

The workshop is free for participants, funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). Participants are responsible for any travel or personal expenses.
Places are limited to three participants per organisation. Additional participants may be added to a waitlist.

Venue Information

Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre is a community-led cultural hub on Wathaurong Country in Grovedale, Djilang/Geelong. It is a place where stories, language and culture are shared, creating opportunities to yarn, learn and connect to Country.
Booln Booln in Waddawurrung means lyrebird. The lyrebird is known for its remarkable ability to mimic and share sounds, a speaker of all languages and, for the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, is symbolic of the many mobs that make up Wathaurong community.
Led by the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, the cultural centre offers its visitors a space to experience culture and learning, bush gardens, native animals, such as emus and wallabies, browse Aboriginal art and crafts, and enjoy food and drinks at the on-site café.

  • Bus: Visitors can catch Route 53 along Surf Coast Highway (towards Torquay) and alight near Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre on Surf Coast Hwy. From there it’s a short walk to the entrance.
  • Train: The nearest train station is Geelong Railway Station. From there you can connect with local buses (including Route 53) to reach Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre.

There is ample on-site parking available at Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre for visitors arriving by car.

Wathaurong Booln Booln Cultural Centre is wheelchair accessible. At the cultural centre there is:

  • accessible entrance paths and ramps,
  • accessible toilets on site, and
  • accessible parking close to the entrance.

Enrolment Information

To secure your place in the Djilang A Place for Culture workshop, enrol online using the Enrolment Form above.

After your enrolment is confirmed with SNAICC:

  • You will receive an email from SNAICC with details of your in-person workshop.
  • You will recieve a request to complete a short self-assessment survey via Google Forms (this will take less than 5-10 minutes).
  • Approximately eight weeks before the workshop, Early Childhood Australia (ECA) will provide login details to access the online learning.
  • Finally, you will have access to online learning for up to eight weeks before the workshop and for four weeks after.

A Place for Culture is delivered through a blended learning model, including:

  1. Self-paced online learning; approximately 6–8 hours.
  2. One-day, in-person workshop facilitated by SNAICC.
  3. Online yarning circle to reflect and share learning with peers.
  4. Certificate of participation on completion.

This approach allows participants to build knowledge at their own pace and then apply learning in a supportive, interactive environment.

Participants will have access to two self-paced online learning programs up to eight weeks before the in-person workshop:

  • Program 1: A Place for Culture (Four courses | Estimated 3–4 hours total)
  • Program 2: A Place for Culture in the Early Years (Two courses | Estimated 1–2 hours total)

Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the online learning before attending the in-person workshop, as it provides important background knowledge that will be built on during the in-person session.
