A Place for Culture – Naarm/Melbourne Workshop Information
A Place for Culture is a professional learning and development opportunity that supports Early Childhood Education and Care educators, leaders and service providers working in non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services to build inclusive early learning environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
The A Place for Culture Naarm/Melbourne workshop will be on Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Country at Balam Balam Place in Bulleke-bek/Brunswick and will be delivered by the SNAICC Learning and Development team.
Workshop Details
- Date: Tuesday, 28 April 2026
- Time: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
- Location: Balam Balam Place, 15 Phoenix Street, Bulleke-bek/Brunswick
- Catering: Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Please advise any dietary requirements when enrolling.
The workshop is free for participants, funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). Participants are responsible for any travel or personal expenses.
Places are limited to three participants per organisation. Additional participants may be added to a waitlist.

Venue Information
Balam Balam Place is a purpose-built creative, cultural and community precinct in the heart of Bulleke-bek/Brunswick in the inner north of Naarm/Melbourne.
Balam balam means butterfly in Woi-Wurrung and Taungurung.
The centre provides flexible and accessible spaces for workshops, meetings, community events, exhibitions, creative practices and gathering, and includes multipurpose community rooms, Maternal and Child Health services, creative studios, shared workspaces, a café and gardens.
Balam Balam Place is a Merri-bek City Council facility and is managed by These Are The Projects We Do Together in partnership with community and cultural stakeholders.
Balam Balam Place is highly accessible by public transport, with several options within walking distance:
- Tram: Route 19 tram at Sydney Road and Glenlyon Road/Dawson Street – about 2 minute walk.
- Bus: Route 506 (Moonee Ponds – Westgarth Station via Brunswick) at Sydney Road and Glenlyon Road – about 2 minute walk.
- Train: Upfield Line from Brunswick Station or Jewell Station – roughly 8 minute walk.
On-site vehicle access and parking is limited with short-term loading/unloading areas; there is no dedicated on-site community parking except for these zones.
- Paid car parking is available on surrounding public streets and in nearby commercial car parks.
- Woolworths car park (Phoenix or Albert Street entries) offers up to 90 minutes free parking after which fees apply.
- Accessible parking and loading areas are generally located near Brunswick Baths and adjacent streets.
There are also secure bike parking and end-of-trip facilities available on site.
Balam Balam Place has been designed with inclusive access in mind:
- Wheelchair accessible throughout, including lifts connecting multiple levels.
- Wide corridors and accessible toilets on each level.
- Flat concrete paths and ramps around the grounds for easy movement across the precinct.
Enrolment Information
To secure your place in the Naarm A Place for Culture workshop, enrol online using the Enrolment Form above.
After your enrolment is confirmed with SNAICC:
- You will receive an email from SNAICC with details of your in-person workshop.
- You will recieve a request to complete a short self-assessment survey via Google Forms (this will take less than 5-10 minutes).
- Approximately eight weeks before the workshop, Early Childhood Australia (ECA) will provide login details to access the online learning.
- Finally, you will have access to online learning for up to eight weeks before the workshop and for four weeks after.
A Place for Culture is delivered through a blended learning model, including:
- Self-paced online learning; approximately 6–8 hours.
- One-day, in-person workshop facilitated by SNAICC.
- Online yarning circle to reflect and share learning with peers.
- Certificate of participation on completion.
This approach allows participants to build knowledge at their own pace and then apply learning in a supportive, interactive environment.
Participants will have access to two self-paced online learning programs up to eight weeks before the in-person workshop:
- Program 1: A Place for Culture (Four courses | Estimated 3–4 hours total)
- Program 2: A Place for Culture in the Early Years (Two courses | Estimated 1–2 hours total)
Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the online learning before attending the in-person workshop, as it provides important background knowledge that will be built on during the in-person session.
