A new podcast has hit Australia’s airwaves, giving centre stage to the voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities across the country.
Kids, Culture, Community – SNAICC Yarns, launched by SNAICC – National Voice for our Children, is the first podcast of its kind in Australia, placing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and lived experience at the forefront of national conversations about childhood, family, and culture.
SNAICC CEO Catherine Liddle said the podcast fills a critical gap in Australia’s media landscape.
“We wanted a platform that ensures the stories, knowledge and lived experiences of our communities are shared, received, and echoed across the nation – from grassroots voices to national conversations,” Ms Liddle said.
“Each episode dives into the real-world issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, sharing expert insights and grassroots wisdom through a strengths-based, community-led lens.
“The podcast is powerful storytelling platform and serves as a vital resource for the child and family services sector that will inform and advocate for systemic change, while promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination and culture.
“We have a bunch of exciting episodes lined up that showcase the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations and provides listeners with practical information, valuable resources and actionable advocacy to inspire change.
“Kids, Culture, Community – SNAICC Yarns will be available on all major platforms and is it’s designed to be an ongoing, accessible resource for practitioners, policymakers, educators and the general public.”
