Do you want to learn more about the political system to make change in your community?

April 12, 2016

Straight Talk brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women from all over the country to build on their existing skills and knowledge, connect with like-minded women and experience parliament in action.

This exciting week allows women the opportunity to meet female parliamentarians, sit in on question time, take part in a Senate enquiry and walk away with the tools to continue making change more effectively.

In 7 years, more than 550 women have participated in this program and say that Straight Talk has had a significant impact on their life.

Straight Talk made me realise that anything is possibly if we put our minds to it and strategically come up with ways to create change. It made me realise that everyone is human, whether you’re a politician or a bus driver, once I realised that, I became so much more confident in meeting with politicians and really anyone in day to day life. I came home from Straight Talk an even stronger Indigenous woman, with heaps more tools in my belt to use in everyday life.

Sissy Austin, Straight Talk 2014

All program costs are covered by Oxfam Australia including return flights to Canberra, accommodation and all meals.
