SNAICC 5th National Conference in Cairns well received!

June 27, 2013

The 5th SNAICC National Conference ‘Four Our Children: Living and Learning Together’ was held in Cairns from 4-6 June. Over 1100 delegates attended what has been the largest SNAICC conference we have undertaken so far. Inspiring keynote presenters included Marta Mauras Perez, Professor Cindy Blackstock, Professor Cynthia Kiro, Professor Judy Atkinson, Kathy Guthadjaka (Gotha), Krista McMeekein and April Long.

The Yarrabah Film night was an inspiring evening sharing films made by children and young people from acorss the nation . There were performances daily from local children from Yarrabah State School Dance Troupe, Parramatta State School Dance Group, Boopa Werem Kindergarten and Biddigil Preforming Arts. The Yarrabah weavers group and many of the local arts and craftspeople participated in an art market.

Over 70 concurrent sessions, yarning circles and workshops were held showcasing the work being done nationally in child protection, out of home care, early childhood, young people, family, culture, remote work, healing, rights, roles, responsibilities and many other areas.
