Description
SNAICC is proud to launch its new resource guide and training package: Stronger, Safer, Together – Intensive & Targeted Family Support.
Stronger, Safer, Together is a reflective practice resource and toolkit for services that provide intensive and targeted support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families while addressing key practice issues and using a place-based approach.
The package has been informed by Aboriginal community-controlled organisations (ACCOs) from across Australia.
SNAICC would like to thank and acknowledge these agencies for their generosity in sharing their practice wisdom and insight for the benefit of children and families around Australia:
- Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (CAAC) Targeted Support Service, NT;
- Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services Family Intervention Service (TAIHS), QLD;
- Clarence Valley Intensive Family Based Service, NSW;
- Bungree Aboriginal Intensive Family Based Service, NSW;
- Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency, Vic.
The agencies that contributed to inform this guide were clear in their direction that this resource would not be useful to their sector if it provided a narrowly instructive guide on how to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. They reinforced that training and service responses need to be culturally appropriate and respectful of the place-based knowledge and expertise of practitioners.
SNAICC looks forward to the resource guide becoming a first step for organisations wanting to share and learn about what really works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
