SNAICC – National Voice for our Children, the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, has been coordinating National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Children’s Day) for over 30 years.
The theme for Children’s Day in 2019 is We Play, We Learn, We Belong, recognising the vital role that learning in the early years – in all forms – plays in the development and futures of our children.
The 2019 Children’s Day ambassador is Nanna from the animated children’s series Little J & Big Cuz. Nanna has got a special message for all Australians as we celebrate Children’s Day in 2019, wherever we are.
Over 600 communities across the country are today holding events to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, with 15,000 Children’s Day bags distributed across Australia.
Celebrated on 4 August each year, Children’s Day is a special day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families to celebrate the strengths of culture in raising strong children. It is also a way for all Australians to show their respect and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children as well as learn about the crucial role that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
Children’s Day is an important day for all of us, but it’s a really significant day for our communities and particularly our children.
