National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (NAICD) is held on 4 August each year to celebrate the importance and value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people within family and community.
This year’s NAICD theme is: “From small to big, growing stronger every day”. The theme salutes the role of services in supporting families and communities to raise resilient, healthy children, strong in their culture.
The national launch of NAICD 2011 will be held in Shepparton on Thursday, 4 August.
We are expecting members from the local Koori community in Shepparton and other parts of Victoria to attend the national launch, as well as around 60 local Koori children. We have also invited a number of Federal, state and local government members.
The new SNAICC website will also be launched on the day. The revamped design will help online visitors to more easily access the latest information on SNAICC issues, events and activities.
The SNAICC website also acts as a central information clearinghouse for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and provides a wealth of resources for children, families, and those who work with them.
The launch details are: 11:30-2pm Lulla’s Children and Family Centre 42 Harold Street, Shepparton. For more information: SNAICC Media Officer, Giuseppe Stramandinoli, on (0419) 508 125
