Lagaw Gub is the first Torres Strait Islander Education Kit and has been developed as a way to share information about the rich cultural heritage of Mua Island and in particular the work of Dennis Newie.
Lagaw Gub (meaning Island Wind in the language of Mua Island St Paul in the Torres Strait) is designed to be used by teachers wishing to embed Indigenous perspectives into their classroom practice.
Lagaw Gub is
- an interactive Professional Development workshop
- a DVD of original dances
- a series of original Teacher Strategies and Resources
- a website to support teacher learning
Lagaw Gub will continue to create original resources for the classroom that cover the creative and visual arts, literacy and numeracy, science, history, studies of religion, and geography.
Lagaw Gub is part of the Learning Through Culture series created by BlakDance Australia.
