East Arnhem Mediation office lost in cyclone — can you help rebuild it?

February 26, 2015

26 February 2015 | Community Announcements

When Cyclone Lam hit Galiwin’ku (Elcho Island), off the coast of Darwin, in February it destroyed numerous buildings across the town. Among them was the East Arnhem Mediation office, which was completely flattened by the category four cyclone.

The building was home to the Sunrise Alliance Inc, a not-for-profit non-government organisation, and also supported the Yolngu Nations Forum. The building was a hub in the town, and was the meeting place for a number of local initiatives.

In the aftermath of the disaster, the Sunrise Alliance is looking to replace the building, understanding that work will be even more crucial following the initial recovery phase.

The East Arnhem Mediation office can only be rebuilt through support from the community. If you’d like to assist in the rebuilding you can donate to the cause through the Sunrise Alliance website.

SNAICC is currently in the process of collecting donations from staff and family, and will contribute at least $500 to the funding effort.
