We are excited to announce Courtenay Dempsey as National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day ambassador.

Courtenay Dempsey says that his greatest achievement is his children and that being a young dad comes with many challenges. A Walruwarra man from Western Queensland, his family heritage is tied to outback towns – Mount Isa, Boulia and Dajarra. Playing elite football for the last ten years has provided many challenges on and off the field; but having strong family and cultural ties has been one of the greatest support structures for Courtenay and his young family.
As ambassador for National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, Courtenay commends the work that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations do for instilling culture and community connections. He credits community organisations for playing a role in ensuring that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families are empowered to succeed. Courtenay hopes that by lending his support to National Children’s Day, that more people will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations.
“It’s good to educate not only my kids but other non-Indigenous people from around Australia and around the world. It’s good to have that connection because when people ask my kids who they are they can explain everything.”
– Courtenay
