Standards for Aboriginal Languages have been developed as part of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), after extensive consultation and collaboration with Victorian Aboriginal communities. Teaching Aboriginal Languages in Victoria is centred around language reclamation, revival and cultural studies, making it different from the other five language categories of the VELS.
To assist schools successfully establish an Aboriginal Language program, a set of Protocols has been developed and are included with this resource. It is strongly recommended that schools refer to these Protocols when establishing a program in Aboriginal Languages.
