This Report Card is a resource on children’s rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, whether early childhood, youth, family support, health or otherwise.
It provides information on children’s rights and Australia’s obligations to protect and enable the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and youth. In particular, it breaks down the June 2012 recommendations made by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child to the Australia Government on what it needs to do to better protect children’s rights, with specific focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
The Report Card also proposes some ideas for how services can take up the child rights framework and the recommendations of the Committee in their work. It outlines different activities to raise awareness of child rights issues in community and to support children and youth to discuss and take action to redress some of the issues that affect them most.
