A Place for Culture? (Early Years Cultural Competence)
Develops cultural competence for staff in non-Indigenous early childhood education and care services to improve service access and service quality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The development of a cultural competency framework is required to building understanding, skills and strategies that support service staff to engage effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Deadly Futures (Supporting Child Development from Birth to Five)
Provides training and accompanying resources for educators operating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander playgroups or parenting programs. These educational sessions will support parents and carers to use evidence-based strategies to increase their children’s social, emotional and educational development.
Journey to Big School
Provides practical tools, incorporating and showing respect for local strengths and focuses on holistic transition programs to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in their journey from pre-school to primary school.
Child Protection, Family Violence and Family Support
Through Young Black Eyes (TYBE) Train-the-Trainer (Family Violence)
Builds participants’ confidence and skills for running workshops using the Through Young Black Eyes Workshop kit. Participants discuss and learn about issues and running programs relating to family violence, child abuse and neglect in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Stronger, Safer, Together (Intensive and Targeted Family Support)
Develops skills in intensive and targeted family support delivered to address multiple and/or complex needs and assist families to build their capacity to care for and protect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Cultural Competence and Partnerships
Working and Walking Together (Cultural Competence Training)
Develops culturally appropriate professional practice and service responses for mainstream services working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations by providing ideas, information, tools, practical approaches and ways to strengthen relationships.
Opening Doors to Genuine Partnerships
Supports partnerships between mainstream organisations and Aboriginal community-controlled organisations where there is genuine commitment to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, community empowerment, and developing cross-cultural understanding.
Trauma and Healing
Introduction to Recognising and Responding to Trauma
Looks at trauma and understanding its impacts, and builds understanding of trauma-informed approaches to healing and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, communities and families.
