New edition of book on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and wellbeing

The Telethon Kids Institute  and the Kulunga Aboriginal Research Development Unit have released a new edition of 'Working Together: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health and Wellbeing Principles and Practice'.

Originally published in 2010, the book is designed for health workers, mental health practitioners, those working in areas supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, as well as students.

The new edition - edited by Pat Dudgeon, Helen Milroy and Roz Walker - contains a number of new chapters, providing more information on children and young people.

Examining a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to models of care, the book provides comprehensive information on the mental health strategies and issues impacting on social and emotional wellbeing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Topics covered include:

  • impacts of mental health within the justice system;
  • cultural determinants of social and emotional wellbeing; and
  • intellectual and developmental disabilities
