Brisbane workshop to support healing for survivors of forcible removal

13 September 2013 | COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Marumali are hosting a five day workshop in Brisbane for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander service providers who support members of the Stolen Generations and their families. Marumali workshops have been designed by Lorraine Peeters, an Aboriginal survivor of past removal policies.

The workshop aims to empower practitioners so that they can provide appropriate, effective and safe support to clients who are survivors of Australia's forcible removal policies.

The workshop equips participants with a number of strategies to work with issues of trauma related to forced removal, and provides a framework in which respect for the survivors right to have control over their own healing journey is integral.

Past training workshops have been attended by:

  • Social & Emotional Wellbeing workers - including Link Up caseworkers, BTH Counsellors and Alcohol & Other Drug workers
  • Aboriginal Health Workers
  • Mental Health workers
  • Administrative officers & management personnel
  • Policy advisors/developers
