SNAICC is excited to announce that Australia’s first National Children’s Commissioner, Megan Mitchell, will officially open the 5th SNAICC National Conference in Cairns on 4 June.

As well as open the three-day conference, Ms Mitchell will participate in a yarning session with state and territory children’s commissioners.

The national children’s commissioner will join a number of prominent national and international keynote speakers at the conference, including Emeritus Professor Judy Atkinson, Kathy Guthadjaka (Gotha), Marta Maurás Perez, Associate Professor Cynthia Kiro and Associate Professor Cindy Blackstock.
With the theme For Our Children: Living and Learning Together, the 2013 conference will feature over 70 concurrent sessions including yarning circles and workshops.

The conference also provides a great opportunity to attend pre-conference workshops being offered on the afternoon of Monday, 3 June with either Professor Blackstock or Professor Atkinson.

Professor Blackstock’s workshop, titled Children Voices Have Power!, focuses on the processes on engaging young people; while Professor Atkinson’s workshop is on working with children at risk and issues around developmental trauma.

This conference is a must for those working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family services — so don’t miss out on our special early bird rates!

Early bird registrations will close on Friday, 29 March.  Standard rates will apply after this.
